In the first study focused on
the actual customer experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
solutions, IDG Group and CXO Magazine together with GTB Technologies, discovered a
high degree of discontent among customers who have deployed a DLP
system(1).
This survey was conducted between July 27, 2009 and August 10, 2009. Sample members
received an email message inviting them to participate in the
survey.
Some of the findings include:
- 47%
of the companies that deployed DLP solutions intend to
replace them within 12 months. Demonstrating an
extremely poor
level of satisfaction of
the customers with many DLP products on the market
- The
actual price, internal costs of deployment and operating
a DLP solution are much higher than anticipated at the
time of purchase.
- The main component of the Total
Cost of Ownership of a DLP solution is the operating
cost.
According to the respondents, the
operating cost of a DLP solution is about $10 per user
per month. This corresponds to$240 per user over a
2-year period –
much higher than a typical product price and the
deployment cost together.
- The
difficulty in defining confidential content is the top
challenge in the implementing the DLP solution
